RMIT Shows Itself
RMIT Printing believes its industrial partnerships have been the
key to the consideration of its enviable position, over the past
six years, as the number one provider of structured training in
printing in Victoria.
Apprentices from around Australia number about 650 each year. Add
to that 250 full time certificate students, which includes international
students from Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Mauritius, India, Thailand,
Singapore and Hong Kong.
A growing strength is the excellent enterprise programme with training
tailored for vendors and manufactures.
In 1898, printing was first offered at RMIT University’s precursor,
the Working Men’s College. Since 1992, every diploma or certificate
from RMIT Printing has carried the seal of RMIT University. For
printing graduates, the adventure continues, because RMIT University
is offering more and more pathways from Diplomas into Degrees.
RMIT Printing is based at RMIT University Brunswick campus, in two
new purpose-built buildings. The way in which they dovetail is a
model of maximization of today’s industry workflows. The latest
building, opened in 2000, now brings RMIT’s graphic technology
students under the one roof, for the first time.
This building won the Victorian Chapter of the Royal Australian
Institute of Architects (RAIA) award for the best institutional
building of 2000.
RMIT printing staff welcome tours of the campus, only 5 kilometres
from the CBD. Contact enterprise training manager Robert Black on
